Chancellor Park
What Was the Challenge?
Chancellor Park is a 3.5-acre historic park in the City of Utica. This project sought to integrate new recreational facilities within the existing urban landscape and update aging infrastructure. Other goals included protecting the existing mature tree canopies and coordinating facility upgrades to a nearby historic fieldhouse.
How Did Barton & Loguidice Provide a Solution?
Site improvements included a new interactive fountain splash pad, regulation bocce courts, new pedestrian walkways and lighting, a new pavilion, and landscape improvements. New water and utility services were installed throughout the park. Pre-existing tennis courts were converted into pickleball courts. In addition, an extensive tree protection plan was prepared to retain large healthy tree canopies throughout the park.
Why Was This Project a Success?
The finished space now serves as a vibrant, inclusive community asset for the residents of Utica. Community input sessions, design revisions, and stakeholder coordination shaped a plan that was both visionary and grounded in real-world priorities. B&L made sure to balance a wide range of community needs, including recreation, accessibility, and environmental sustainability, while incorporating innovative and context-sensitive design solutions.
