Village of Adams Community Park Master Plan and Design
What Was the Challenge?
The Village of Adams was seeking to rehabilitate its 2.87-acre community park into a more functional and inclusive space. Situated in the heart of the Village and adjacent to a historic school building converted into apartments, the park required updated features and amenities to meet the recreational needs of residents, encourage multi-generational use, and enhance ecological and community value.
How Did Barton & Loguidice Provide a Solution?
Barton & Loguidice developed a comprehensive master plan for the Adams Community Park, involving community engagement and collaboration with the Adams Community Park Committee. Key elements of the process included:
- Conducting an online community park survey to gather public input.
- Collaborating with a project advisory committee to guide design development.
- Completing a site inventory and analysis, followed by two concept alternatives, which were merged into a final site design based on community feedback.
The final design emphasized accessible play areas, organic pathways, tree plantings, park amenities, and facilities for phased implementation. The plan also incorporated inclusive design principles, sustainability, and funding strategies to prioritize future improvements. B&L supported the Village with grant writing for Phase 1 Improvements through the 2022 Consolidated Funding Application, resulting in a $322,000 award through the OPRHP Environmental Protection Fund program, matched by Village and Adams Community Park Committee funds.
Why Was This Project a Success?
The Adams Community Park Master Plan successfully reimagined the park as a vibrant, multi-generational space that balances recreation, function, and ecology. Phase 1 improvements, constructed in 2024, include playground equipment with accessible elements, pathways, tree plantings, benches and picnic tables, waste and pet waste receptacles, and enhanced park entrances. By integrating community input, sustainable design, and phased implementation, the project laid a solid foundation for ongoing improvements, ensuring the park will serve as a welcoming hub for all residents for years to come.
