Barton & Loguidice Announces Workforce Training Partnership to Support New York’s Water Sector

April 14, 2026

Barton & Loguidice (B&L) announces a new partnership with the New York Section American Water Works Association (NYSAWWA) to provide Gold Standard training for water and wastewater operators through the creation of the One Water Workforce Training Center.

Through this partnership, B&L will deliver training from locations in Albany, Syracuse, and Rochester through the One Water Workforce Training Center, a program designed to prepare and support the next generation of certified drinking water and wastewater system operators. The initiative will offer both entry-level certification training and continuing education courses to help current operators maintain licensure.

NYSAWWA’s One Water Workforce program serves as a centralized hub for career awareness, recruitment, and training resources across the water sector, connecting municipalities, utilities, and prospective professionals with the tools needed to address ongoing workforce shortages.

“Communities across New York are facing a critical need to recruit and retain qualified water and wastewater professionals,” said Richard Straut, Principal and Water Resources Practice Leader at Barton & Loguidice. “This partnership allows us to combine industry expertise with hands-on training to build a stronger, more sustainable workforce.”

Training will be led by Stephen Sanders, a seasoned instructor with more than 14 years of experience in water and wastewater facility operator training, including his previous role as the leader of SUNY Morrisville’s Environmental Training Center. Sanders will be supported by additional B&L professionals, offering a combination of classroom instruction from locations across New York as well as practical, real-world learning experiences at treatment facilities.

“Our goal is to give participants not only the knowledge they need to pass certification exams, but also the practical skills required to succeed in the field,” Sanders said. “By exposing trainees to real operational environments, we’re helping prepare them for long-term careers in this essential industry.”

Courses started rolling out earlier this year and will be available to municipalities and utilities across the state. Learn more at B&L’s Operator Training & Support page as well as the One Water Workforce Training.
