Town of Olive DPW Storage Facility Upgrades

What Was the Challenge?

The Town of Olive needed a new Motor Vehicle Storage Facility for its Department of Public Works that could house vehicles and equipment in a durable, functional space while meeting fire code requirements. The project site required a design that could withstand water and salt runoff from plow vehicles and provide year-round usability in varying climate conditions.

How did Barton & Loguidice Provide a Solution?

B&L delivered architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering services for a 7,500-square-foot interior facility with an additional 1,200 square feet of covered floor area. To address the fire code challenge, a fire barrier was designed to divide the building into two separate fire areas, eliminating the need for a sprinkler system. The building utilized a steel structure on a concrete wall system for durability, with metal siding, insulated metal monoslope roofing, hollow metal doors, and large overhead coiling vehicle doors. Mechanical systems included large ceiling fans for summer air movement and a ventilation system for exhaust fume control. The electrical design featured energy-efficient lighting and receptacles for engine block heaters to improve diesel vehicle performance in cold weather. B&L also provided on-site services, construction administration, and technical support to ensure quality and compliance throughout the project.

Why Was This Project a Success?

The $1.7 million facility, completed in January 2025, met the Town of Olive’s operational needs with a durable, code-compliant design tailored to the site’s limitations. By integrating fire separation instead of costly sprinkler systems, using materials that resist corrosion, and installing energy-efficient systems, the project delivered long-term functionality and cost-effectiveness. Comprehensive construction oversight ensured the project stayed on track and addressed unforeseen conditions, resulting in a facility ready to serve the Town’s DPW for decades to come.
